Offerings for America

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“In the name of God, Amen.  We…[h]aving undertaken, for the glory of God, and advancement of the Christian faith…a voyage to plant the first colony in the Northern parts of Virginia, do, by these presents, solemnly and mutually in the presence of God,  and one another, covenant and combine ourselves together…”

The Mayflower Compact, November 11, 1620

As I returned with the morning newspaper, I could see our American flag now posted in the holder continue to wave on the morning breezes.  It seemed to be offering a reminder of the fast-approaching celebration of the birthday of this great Nation just a few days off.

The celebration of a Nation founded and established by many with a deep faith and belief that they were acting in concert with God.  And as The Mayflower Compact sets out above—as the governing document of the first settlement of Pilgrims—it also was an offering for the advancement of the Christian faith. A Face of Joy

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”  Matthew 5:5 (NIV)

As the newest morning of our lives rises over the horizon, the memory of a long-ago moment is fresh on my mind, although it was many years ago in the making. (more…)

And yesterday, once again, and every year since June 14, 1777, we continue the annual tribute to honor and remember that grand flag of our Nation; a flag which has become of symbol of freedom, courage and sacrifice throughout the centuries and the world.  (more…)

In the Beginning–God

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”  Genesis 1:1 (NIV)

We’ve all had those questions before.  You know, the ones you can’t answer or don’t want to think about, so you try to dismiss them with a quick and easy answer.  Maybe an answer just acceptable enough to deflect the question so the conversation can move on to something else. (more…)

And God Ran

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.”  Luke 15: 20 (NIV)

It is one of the most dramatic and hope-filled lines in all of scripture.  Carefully woven within Christ’s parable of the “Prodigal (or Lost) Son”, it is one of the clearest and most accurate verses depicting the nature and grace of the God of the universe—our Creator.

And yet it seems so often to be nothing more than words to us. (more…)
