The Value of the Moment

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”

Then Herod…sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.”

When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was.  When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him.

As I sit here the morning sun is beginning to spray golden fingers of possibility across the room as it filters through the blinds covering the windows to my office.  In the distance you can see the frost glistening silver across open fields stretching well beyond view, while the thermometer registers twenty-five degrees, explaining the icy layer on the surface of the bird bath which Lynda always makes sure is full for any creatures still out and about. For Your Moment of Need

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.  And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”

Luke 2: 10-12 (KJV)

Lynda and I will gather again this year with our family—our children, Nathan and Amy, and their little girls, our Grandchildren, Hannah and Ellie Kate—to open the gifts we have for them, and they have for us, and we for each other.

And before we begin to look in our stockings, or open our gifts we will stop and sit down together to read certain scriptures from God’s Word, including the scripture verse set out above from the Gospel of Luke.

And I will again cry.  (more…)

Do You See It?

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given:  and the government shall be upon His shoulder:  and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

Isaiah 9:6 (King James Version)

Twelve days to go.  And I finally see it coming. (more…)

Wild Turkey Moments

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy.”  Matthew 2: 10

And the three wise men (actually probably astrologers) continued on their journey following the star until they reached Bethlehem in Judea—the birthplace of the King whom they found lying quietly in the lowly and dank manger.  Traditions of the day tell us that they would have also seen sheep, lambs and donkeys as they rode in on their camels.

But historical accounts give no indication that they saw any wild turkeys.   (more…)
