Indifference–Not an Option

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.”  Luke 12: 48 (NIV)

It’s one of those mornings against which to measure your indifference level.  The emerging sun sparkled hues of red from the leaves of our maple tree outside the kitchen window, while brightly colored birds flew in to enjoy the seed in the bird feeders and water in the bird bath.  Watching our basset hound, Lily, sniff her way out the back door would lead one to believe that a number of critter visitors made their way into the side yard during the night.

There was and is a lot of stuff going on, (more…)

Rope Bridges and the Father’s Touch

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying,

Oh, that You would bless me indeed,

And enlarge my territory,

That Your hand would be with me…” 1 Chronicles 4: 9-10a (NIV)

The skies seem as though they will be blue and clear as morning begins to break over the area.  But the memory remains of last week’s winds, thunder-storms, and much needed renewing rain across the parched pristine finger of our Florida peninsula.  More is on the way, I’m sure, with blue skies to follow.

Heading to Heaven

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“And He Who sits on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’”  Revelation 21: 5 (NAS)

It was a gut-wrenching moment this afternoon as we said goodbye to Jackson.  Jackson is the beautiful fifteen-year-old Springer Spaniel who had graced, loved, protected and brought laughter to my son Nathan, his bride Amy, and their daughters Hannah and Ellie Kate, to us and so many others.

The pain and emptiness of Jackson’s loss is intense.  The numbness has come in waves (more…)

Alive and Living

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”                              Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

I don’t know them all—the faces.  They are the images of face after face, some seen, some imagined through the years, and some still yet to see, racing through the windows of my mind as the early morning light crashes over the horizon and shines through into the recesses of my study.

And with their images, an aching sadness hangs in my heart.

I know the aching will pass as I have to punch through the hovering clouds into the sunshine of this brand new day.  But as I sit here, and even though they are now beginning to fade, I can still see them—the faces of those who are still alive, but who have stopped living.  (more…)
