Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…
“God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need Him. We stand fearless at the cliff-edge of doom, courageous in the seastorm and earthquake, before the rush and roar of oceans, the tremors that shift mountains…”
“Step out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at Me, your High God, above politics, above everything.” Psalm 46: 1-3, 10 (The Message)
The temporal side of my spirit—the side which feels better when I think I have control over the world around me—suspects that the psalmist was sitting in a setting similar to this morning’s calm and blue sky pictured outside my upstairs window. Even I could write those words in that setting—or could I?
I wonder.
I wonder what he was really going through when he was inspired to write those words. I wonder if he had just heard the oft-used phrase of today, from the local news pundits and prophets of his day, as they looked out at the picture before them…
“Conditions are beginning to deteriorate…” (more…)

“If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will change my expression, and smile.’” Job 9:27
I wonder what Wes is doing these days. Our meeting that day was only a “chance” and one-time meeting. Actually, I can’t remember the last time I had thought about my limping friend, until the other day. (more…)

“Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.”
I Timothy 6: 17 (NLT)
It’s a moment which is forever etched in my memory. Her words floated in my thoughts as I readied to go outside earlier this morning to retrieve the paper—

“Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad?
I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—
My Savior and my God!”
Psalm 43:5 (NLT)

But the occurrences and events of late within our personal and professional lives, and those around our nation and world, might justifiably give us all pause to wonder if, in fact, it’s always a given to occur in the future.
A few years ago we were headed as a family to Disney World. While we were planning and making notes as to the things we wanted to do while we were there, my elder Granddaughter, Hannah, lobbed a question in my direction. (more…)

“Span of stars overhead as we walk this road,
While this darkness remains I will bear your load,
And together we will tend the seed He’s sown
As we walk along the road to that city,
On that day we will sing “Holy, Holy”,
On that day we’ll bow down in the light,
And then we’ll rise and turn our eyes
To the One who’s the light, the light of that city.”
“The Light of that City”,

Eternal moments.
They happen more than we realize—penetrating the darkness and disappointments of some of our days—and are always designed for our enjoyment, growth and good. Yet we miss them—too often, too many, too bad. Those eternal moments in our journey where we meet Christ in the seemingly ordinary moments of every day which is before us. (more…)
