Waist Deep and More—for Us

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. As Jesus was coming up out of the water…” Mark 1: 9-10a (NIV)

From his view from the bank of the river the Roman soldier could see the frenetic activity of the gathering crowds. People left him alone out of fear that they would be dragged into the scene unfolding before them. Roman soldiers were normally known to be cruel, having been tempered in the coliseum in fights to the death. Those who didn’t die in the fights were thrown to the lions. (more…)

Cold Fronts & Snow Flurries

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

“Then the time came when the risk it took to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” Anais Nin

A bit of a cold front passed through this past week. Actually, it was a fairly strong front setting some records for low temperatures in various parts of the country. And it still seems a good bit colder outside almost everywhere as this morning continues to unfold. (more…)

Goodbye—But Just for Now

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

When I’m alone I dream of the horizon and words fail me.
There is no light in a room where there is no sun,
And there is no sun if you’re not here with me, with me.

There is no sunshine anywhere as I sit here in the very early hours of this morning. It’s about two-thirty, and I have taken a moment from my resting place next to her and from ten feet away from where she lays, as I share with you, I can see her chest slowly and weakly rising and falling. (more…)

Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me-everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Philippians 4: 8-9 (NLT)

Monday.

When’s the last time we gave Monday a fair shake?

Be honest. What’s our perspective and perception of the day? Honestly.

The weekend is over and many of us are back at it and into the usual grind of each day of the week. The break is over and whatever rest we were supposed to get to rejuvenate us-well, we could use just a bit more. Those of us who were up and down with weekend sports find ourselves Monday-morning quarterbacking the games of the weekend. (more…)

Fall

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens…He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.        Ecclesiastes 3: 1, 11-12 (NIV)

A cold front blew through our area and swept across the southeast at the end of last week ushering in the season of fall with its cooler temperatures and brisk breezes.  At about the same time our two granddaughters, a young friend, and Randi, my sister, here for a visit, swept through the playroom and other parts of our home leaving behind them the signs of their wonderful invasion.
