A Very Special Birth

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29: 11 (NIV)

Gran,” she began to say knowingly, “can I watch the last part of the movie with you, sitting together in your chair?”

It was as if sung by a chorus of Angels. And even though my youngest Granddaughter Ellie Kate knew the answer before she asked it, it was what my heart needed to hear at the moment. (more…)

Stretch it All to Joy

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

I Thessalonians 5:16-17 (NIV)

I probably feel the same as you do. Go back and read that scripture verse again.

The Apostle Paul wrote it. This is the same guy who persecuted believers until he had a “God-orchestrated-blinding-light-conversion experience” on the Damascus Road. Thereafter, Paul was imprisoned regularly, lashed five times and beaten with rods three times by his fellow Jews, stoned, shipwrecked three times, constantly on the move and in danger from rivers, bandits, friends who betrayed him, whether in the cities, the country or at sea, and was always hungry, thirsty, and without sleep. God is Ready—Ask Big

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed.

One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”

Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”

Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.”

John 5: 1-9 (NIV)

So here we are moving through the last days of summer and heading soon into the first few days of fall for 2012. As we reflect on that for a moment, I wonder if we’re on track to accomplish all the things we had in mind to do for the year? (more…)

Blade Runner for Christ—Press On

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.”

Philippians 3: 12-14 (The Message)

I wasn’t feeling sorry for myself at that moment, although I have had those times before. But there I was watching something special the other night as this remarkable young man prepared for and then ran in his first ever Olympic race. It was the first qualifying heat of the 400 meter competition at the 2012 London Summer Olympics. No big deal, right? (more…)
