We Have Been to the Manger

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Luke 2: 10-11 (KJV)

You may have heard of the place, or you may have heard of the story.

But as the legend goes, there is a spot in England known as the Valley of the Roses. It is described by those who claim to have been there as a place where the air hangs so heavy from the perfume of the flowers that when you walk through that Valley the aroma of the roses clings to you and remains on your clothing long after you have passed through the Valley. A Child is Born

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

Luke 2: 9-14 (NKJV)

One day until Christmas, Gran” my younger Granddaughter Ellie Kate will proclaim when I see her in a moment. One day.

Here we are once again. It’s Christmas.

A Child is born. (more…)

Christ Has Come—Is There Room?

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”

Luke 2: 6-7 (NIV)

It happens every year, just like the sun comes up every day.

Our Granddaughters go with us to pick out our Christmas tree—usually the one they select—and then after I put the lights on, they present themselves at our home to assist with putting the ornaments, which have been gathered over forty-five years of Christmases, onto the very tree they selected. God’s In Control—Let It Be!

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary.

And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!”…

And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”

And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be bornwill be called holy—the Son of God….For nothing will be impossible with God.”

And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

Sitting here this morning, I can only shake my head as I try to understand it all. I mean the plan to have the Son of the most high God born to a virgin in Bethlehem, in a stable, behind an inn, with only a few barnyard animals there to celebrate the occasion. (more…)

Where Are We Heading?

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.

Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.”

Luke 2: 1-5 (NKJV)

The tradition continues in our home.

But with just a slight variation this year. (more…)
