The Cornerstone

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

God is building a home. He’s using us all—irrespective of how we got here—in what he is building. He used the apostles and prophets for the foundation.

We see it taking shape day after day—a holy temple built by God, all of us built into it, a temple in which God is quite at home.

Ephesians 2: 19-22 (The Message)

As I sit here this morning, after a long weekend of writing, editing and organizing a new manuscript, a myriad of questions continue to circulate in my thoughts.

It started when I was looking through an old journal of mine I wrote in a number of years ago, when I was trying to decide whether or not to run for the U.S. House of Representatives. Many people around the country who didn’t know me encouraged me to do so, but even with all of those positive compliments, my daily journaling reflected my struggle to determine the right answer. Victor Hugo, Les Miserables

It was to be nothing special other than a quiet Sunday afternoon in our home. That was our plan.

But then, with the encouragement of our son, Nathan, Lynda and I decided to spend part of the afternoon yesterday seeing the recently released movie, Les Miserables.

Life-changing potential. (more…)

The Journey of a Brand New Year

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

If we discovered that we had only five minutes left to say all we wanted to say, every telephone would be occupied by people calling other people to stammer that ‘they loved them.’”

Christopher Morley

This morning’s coffee was special for a number of reasons. First, it was a gift from my Bride—Wintry Blend—which she happened to find in a new store in town. Secondly, it was good, and reminded me once again of the season of Christmas we have been in the midst of, one more time. I probably wouldn’t have selected it myself—usually leaning toward choosing one of those with which I am more familiar—but Lynda is always looking for something out of the ordinary she hopes will be a blessing for me.
