Right Where You Are

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”

Harriet Tubman

As I sit here this morning, I wonder if we will ever get to a better place with race relations or with so many other artificial barriers we set up between ourselves. I’m wondering that because a few days ago I heard that someone used a derogatory word to describe someone and a group of people, a few days earlier. Even sadder was that it was used in describing a remarkable role model and woman named Harriet Tubman. (more…)

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”

Martin Luther King Jr., Strength to Love, 1963

US black civil rights leader & clergyman (1929 – 1968)

It has been an interesting year. It has been another learning year.

A dear friend sent me that quote by the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. set out above, and ever since it has floated hauntingly around in my thoughts. It’s still there as I sit here this morning to share a moment with you. (more…)

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

While the people of Israel were still at Rephidim, the warriors of Amalek attacked them. Moses commanded Joshua, “Choose some men to go out and fight the army of Amalek for us. Tomorrow, I will stand at the top of the hill, holding the staff of God in my hand.”

So Joshua did what Moses had commanded and fought the army of Amalek. Meanwhile, Moses, Aaron, and Hur climbed to the top of a nearby hill. Looking back now, from where I sit this morning, through the past few months, it seems fairly obvious. And I suppose were I not so busy on a number of different fronts I would have noticed that they were there all the while. People, that is, in each area and some in more than one, consistently and quietly supporting what I was doing. (more…)

Cupcakes and Roller Coasters

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10 (NASB)

I don’t know if our younger granddaughter, Ellie Kate, was trying to get information for my birthday, a day away, or just having one of her many moments of curiosity, when she read from a list of about twenty cupcake varieties so I could identify my favorites. (more…)
