Believing in the Unbelievable!

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

I have learned and have been inspired to believe the unbelievable more from the hearts of children, than from the mouths and manners of educated adults.

Could it be because children still see their Creator as He intended to be seen, rather than as portrayed through our example?”

The morning breezes continue to swirl through the trees outside my window as I sit here watching and reflecting on the day opening before me.

Their mesmerizing movement through the otherwise still branches always carries an excited message of freshness and renewal, of anticipation and hope for all that this new day and new week will bring.

A message even, that the unbelievable is believable. (more…)

Watching You—Our Impact

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

Cause I’ve been watching you Dad, ain’t that cool…I’m your buckaroo; I wanna be like you.”

“Watching You” by Rodney Atkins

Looking back now—that’s how I remembered it as a little boy at the age of ten.

In everything. Sitting next to him at dinner. Waiting to see what dessert he picked, so I could pick the same dessert as my Dad, when there was a choice. Singing in the church choir with him. Learning to play his favorite card game—Casino. (more…)

On the Altar

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

Sometime later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about.”

Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac…and set out for the place…On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance…

Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together [up the mountain]…Isaac…said…“The fire and the wood are here…but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”

Abraham answered, “God himself will provide…” And the two of them went on together.

When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the Lord called out to him…

Abraham! Abraham!”

Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said, “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”

Genesis 22: 1-12 (NIV)

If what I see outside my window this morning is any indication of what the day will be like—it’s fixing to be a beautiful day. A bit warm again perhaps, but it’s cool inside, so I’m good.

But then I read this verse and see that God is talking to me again about putting something on the altar. (more…)

Peace in the Storms

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).

But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water.

Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”

When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him!”

Mark 4: 35-41 (NLT)

There it is again. Surely I have noticed it about God’s Word, before. You can see it in the picture painted by the scripture above from Mark’s Gospel.

God’s Word is so compelling and for so many reasons. It’s a roadmap for our lives. It presents some of the neatest cast of characters. Strange, even at times—John the Baptist, for example, eating locusts and honey. It has proven itself true through the centuries; and of course for good reason as God’s divinely inspired letter to those He loves. (more…)

Why Not Today?

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead fix your attention on God. You will be changed from the inside out…

Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of maturity, God brings out the best in you…”

Romans 12: 2a (The Message)

There it is Wendy…second star to the right and straight on till morning.” (more…)
