So Glad You Called

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

I brought glory to you here on earth by doing everything you told me to…

I have given them the glory you gave me—the glorious unity of being one, as we are—

I in them and you in me, all being perfected into one—so that the world will know you sent me and will understand that you love them as much as you love me.

John 17: 4, 22-23 (TLB)

It’s another good morning to start off by reading this prayer of Jesus. He, of course is praying to His Father. It is not a prayer of agony like the prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Instead, it is a prayer about His relationship with His Father, and a request that the Father would grant to His followers the same kind of unity that He and the Father have—a unity based upon love. He prayed that in everything He did and as His work was coming to conclusion on earth that His Father would be glorified through it. In this prayer, and throughout every moment of His life, He knew that the Father loved Him and was always glad to hear His voice calling out to Him.

What about you? What do you suppose God thinks when you call out to Him? I mean when He hears your voice—in prayer—calling heavenward, what does He think and feel? Does He run for cover thinking “Oh, not again!”, or does He smile excitedly and lean toward you waiting for that first word to hit his ear? What do you think?

Jesus’ prayer above seems to make it clear—He’s really excited you called. (more…)

Easter—Never Alone

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now!

1 Peter 1: 3, 4 (The Message)

     He was all alone.

There were people all around Him—lining the streets as He slowly dragged the cross toward the hill at Calvary—but He really was all alone.

There were some who were watching this spectacle who were supportive of Him, who followed Him—some women actually—but most of those you would have thought He could count on at a time like this—His disciples for instance—had taken off for the woods when the temperature got turned up too high. (more…)

Direct Dialing

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, He gave up His spirit.

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.”

Matthew 27: 50-52 (NIV)

Outside my upstairs window it is a beautiful morning.

The morning following what we recognized yesterday in the Christian church as Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday, of course, is that day which marks the entry of Christ into Jerusalem riding on a donkey, and the beginning of that last week of Christ’s life here among us on earth. (more…)

Getting to Shore

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

By now it was dark…a strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough…they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on water…they were willing to take Him into the boat, and immediatelythe boat reached the shore where they were heading.”

John 6:17-21 (NIV)

As I sit here this morning, the sun has already come up.

Recent storms have calmed.

A peace has rolled in as I watch the sparkling drops of sunshine dance around the room. There seems to be more peace present now than existed through the unsettling occurrences storms of the recent past. Storms I had hoped not to have to face—at least not yet—which rose up before me. I was at times a bit adrift, and felt like I was being thrown up the side of one wave and down another, wave after wave. (more…)
