Filling the Well

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

What’s inside of you? How did it get there? How do you change what’s there?

Think about this for a moment—if you were watching yourself from afar go through the day, and knowing yourself as you probably do—wouldn’t you be able to predict what your reaction and response would be to the situations you would face during the day?

Living up to the Messages

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

Your life is an occasion—rise to it!” Mr. Magorian’s Wonder Emporium

Messages like that—well, you just want to replay them over and over. Maybe even wish you could go back in your own life, and begin again at some point—embracing that message for your life. Things might have been better—easier—more fun. But beginning on this beautiful new morning, messages like that are the messages we should want to convey to those around us—to our children who will take their cues as to their value and worth from you and from me—and to others we have an impact upon.

Messages like that—and others, both positive and negative—will set the course for the lives of those around you, including your children, your spouse, all those whom God has entrusted to your care. And sadly, we don’t often have the best example in our own lives from our own past, upon which to draw.

But here we are anyway, with new lives in front of us. What will we do with them? The same that was done to us…or better? (more…)

In All Things, We Know

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

Romans 8: 28 (NKJV)

Paul wrote that verse, inspired by the heart and mind of God.

Paul, the same guy who at one time was known as Saul and killed those who claimed a belief in and followed Christ.

Until his conversion experience, that is. Until that blinding-light experience which hit him on the Damascus Road—where he met God full in the face.

After that moment, and then as a new disciple of Christ, Paul’s life was something a bit more difficult than easy. Scripture accounts paint a journey of travels on behalf of Christ, where he was beaten, imprisoned, stoned, whipped, slandered, starved, and shipwrecked along with numerous other things of various levels of difficulty happening to him.

Not too fair, it would seem, simply for believing in and following Christ. Yet he never wavered in his belief and mission. (more…)

America—Yet Another Moment to Remember and Return

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

The Lord to Solomon: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

II Chronicles 7:14 (KJV)

He couldn’t have known the significance it would have in our nation’s history. Yet something within spurred him to call for the inscription.

When the Speaker of the Pennsylvania Assembly in 1751 ordered that a new bell be cast for the State House, he directed that a Bible verse be inscribed on the bell. The verse he chose was Leviticus 25: 10, which read:
