Goodbye—But Just for Now

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

When I’m alone I dream of the horizon and words fail me.
There is no light in a room where there is no sun,
And there is no sun if you’re not here with me, with me.
From every window unfurls my heart the heart that you have won.”

“Time to Say Goodbye” Sarah Brightman

There is no sunshine anywhere as I sit here in the very early hours of this morning. It’s about two-thirty, and I have taken a moment from my resting place next to her and from ten feet away from where she lays, as I share with you, I can see her chest slowly and weakly rising and falling. (more…)

Mondays–Finding Hope There Too

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me-everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Philippians 4: 8-9 (NLT)

Monday.

When’s the last time we gave Monday a fair shake?

Be honest. What’s our perspective and perception of the day? Honestly.

The weekend is over and many of us are back at it and into the usual grind of each day of the week. The break is over and whatever rest we were supposed to get to rejuvenate us-well, we could use just a bit more. Those of us who were up and down with weekend sports find ourselves Monday-morning quarterbacking the games of the weekend. (more…)

Fall

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens…He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.        Ecclesiastes 3: 1, 11-12 (NIV)

A cold front blew through our area and swept across the southeast at the end of last week ushering in the season of fall with its cooler temperatures and brisk breezes.  At about the same time our two granddaughters, a young friend, and Randi, my sister, here for a visit, swept through the playroom and other parts of our home leaving behind them the signs of their wonderful invasion. Enjoy the Journey

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.  Proverbs 3: 5-6 (NLT)

Here’s the picture.

It was a day which could only be described as a Winnie the Pooh kind of day—blustery and uncertain.  Not the most desirable for a day of golf.  But there you are standing in the fairway, 180 yards away from a narrow elevated green sloping from back to front and guarded on the front left by water and on the back right by yawning revetted bunkers.  (more…)

God’s Friend

Just some early morning thoughts from me to you…

And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.   James 2: 23 (NIV)

Those who knew architecture referred to it as a Cape-Cod style house.  It was located in one of the suburbs springing up outside the historic community of Farmington, Connecticut.

It was set in an eclectic assemblage of older homes, open fields, farm houses with a smattering of functional barns, and a new subdivision of houses popping up like weeds after a spring shower.  Our Cape-Cod style house was modest, yet with just enough rooms to share to call it home for two adults and seven children, at least just long enough for the upcoming football season and part of the next summer before we moved again.  (more…)
